Description:
The Environment and Ecology Bureau is in the process of updating Hong Kong’s Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP), with a public consultation until 11 July 2025.
Over the past year, more than 120 experts from academia, NGOs, and the business sector, including a dedicated focus group convened by the Business Environment Council, collaborated under the Hong Kong Biodiversity Expert Group (HKBEG). Chaired by Prof Christine Loh, former Under Secretary for the Environment, the group submitted 75 priority recommendations to the Government. These recommendations cover areas such as ecosystem restoration, marine protection, endangered species, business engagement, and wildlife trade regulation. In this sharing session, Prof Loh will discuss with members of HKILA what needs to be done to update the BSAP and contribute to Hong Kong’s biodiversity, aligning with the global nature positive goal set out in the United Nations’ Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
