Soft Launch of Green Data Centres Practice Guide V1.0 & BEAM Plus Data Centres V1.0 (Beta 0)

Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) is pleased to announce that Green Data Centres Practice Guide V1.0 (Practice Guide) and BEAM Plus Data Centres V1.0 (Beta 0) have been soft launched, in order to solicit views of stakeholders.

Data centre is a key IT infrastructure for both the Government and the private sector in positioning Hong Kong as a smart city and data centre hub. While global actions are calling for energy saving and environmental protection, data centres usually require high energy to operate. It is imminent that during the planning, design, construction and the subsequent management and operation of data centres to take into consideration of appropriate green practices and measures to help energy saving and environmental protection.

In light of that, an assessment methodology for the data centre building type (including new and existing data centres) under BEAM Plus has been established by BEAM Society Limited (BSL) to assess the effectiveness of the green measures adopted by data centres. A Practice Guide is also produced to encourage data centre owners to implement/ enhance/ improve the relevant green practices and measures.
