The Urban Renewal Authority issued the “District Study for Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok” earlier, proposing to expedite the progress, as well as to uplift the potential of the redevelopment of Yau Mong district, by formulating the “Master Renewal Concept Plans” (MRCPs), and by using new planning tools such as “Transfer of Plot Ratio” (TPR) and “Street Consolidation Area” (SCA). The Plan would also be useful in tackling the problems of aging buildings, traffic congestion and high population density in the area. The Study also suggests that the proposed mechanisms and strategies can be applied to the redevelopment of other old areas.
