The newly transformed 6,400 square meters inclusive playground located at the Sham Shui Po Park in Kowloon is part of the Transformation of Public Play Space plan under the Chief Executive’s 2019 Policy Address. The design of the playground adopts “nature” as its theme, with “sand”, “plants” and “water” as the main design elements after seeking public views on the playground design. There are three themed areas in the playground, namely “Sandy Bunker”, “Jungle Meadow”, and “Oasis Spring”. The “Sandy Bunker” has a spiral sliding tube with over six metres and a length over 13m for users to have fun while playing. Other play elements such as swings, rope climbing nets, fitness corner and a carousel for wheelchair users are also provided in the playground to facilitate greater integration across generations, physical abilities and society as a whole.
The refurbishment of the playground is led by in-house registered landscape architect in Architectural Services Department (ArchSD). In this tour, representatives from ArchSD will introduce participants the features and public engagement works behind this successful project and share their experience during the design development and construction of the playground.
