Synopsis

概要

Green development and ecological conservation is one of the six guiding principles stipulated in the Greater Bay Area Outline Development Plan. The Northern Metropolis offers the opportunity to create a technology (I&T) hub, good for people to live in, work and travel, out of its unique ecological and cultural contexts that aligns with the National 14th Five-Year Plan in contributing to the strategic positioning of South-North dual engine and the national policy on ecological civilization of the highest standard.

The boundary between Hong Kong and Shenzhen is inseparable in terms of its natural landscape environment. In this regarding, the resilience of the Shenzhen River and the development of the Northern Metropolis should be understood as an opportunity to improve the quality of living, economic development and enhancement of ecological resources across both sides of the riverbanks through nature-based solutions. The Northern Metropolis Development has a substantial coverage of existing Wetland Buffer Area and Wetland Conservation Area which have significant environmental and ecological value, not to mention the carbon sink capability. The urban and landscape design and planning of this area would be crucial to our biodiversity and sustainability in the shadow of climate change.

The Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) has established a platform for environmental experts from Hong Kong and Shenzhen to exchange their knowledge and to holistically evaluate the landscape and ecology, together with urban design and other engineering infrastructures, as an interrelated system in the Northern Metropolis in order to build Hong Kong a better home together.
