Lecture Abstract:
In recent years, amidst the deceleration of urbanization and a downturn in the real estate market, the concept of urban renewal has gained prominence. Simultaneously, discussions on propelling Chinese design onto the international stage and achieving globalization have persisted. From 2016 to 2024, our journey at Lab D+H has been characterized by consistent engagement in landscape-driven urban renewal projects. Beginning with the inaugural Yongqing Lane to Suzhou River Bay, the Workers’ Stadium, and culminating in Hongshou Lane, we’ve discovered that embracing local contexts is integral to achieving global significance. Through our projects, we aim to explore how landscape-oriented urban renewal can uncover shared societal values, fostering resonance among diverse communities.
