Synopsis
Long Valley is currently the largest contiguous freshwater wetland of high ecological value in Hong Kong. Construction works commenced in late 2019 to develop approx. 37 hectares of land at the core area of Long Valley into a nature park for conserving and enhancing the ecologically important environment, as well as for compensating the loss of wetland due to the development of Kwu Tung North / Fanling North New Development Area (NDA). The nature park is close to its completion and will become a major green space for the NDA.
In this guided tour, speakers from AECOM and Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) will introduce the landscape design, ecological enhancement, various bird-friendly measures and management of habitats in Long Valley Nature Park, including wet and dry agricultural land, paddy fields, fishponds, swamps, etc., in order to achieve agro-ecological symbiosis.
